Digital Hot Lunch: #28

Hot lunch ordering system goes virtual

Parent Council got in on the environmental action and invested in an online ordering system for the school's monthly Hot Lunch Program.  Although it took some time to get the entire parent school community on board, this new streamlined way of doing things saved an incredible amount of paper, ziploc baggies, and envelope waste.  We also saved hours in labour spent counting and sorting money and processing all of those paper ordering forms.

21st Century Competency:

We are collaborators.  Students enjoy hot lunch but the program was taking more and more volunteer time as the school population grew.  Parents liked the idea of a "fun" day for lunch once a month but didn't want to add more administrative tasks to the teachers' day.  Parents looked into an online ordering and payment system and made the task much easier, less time consuming, and more environmentally responsible.
